Your ultimate guide to choosing the right diamond
Some more of our Diamond Collection
Choosing a diamond is not as simple as choosing which one sparkles the most. Whether you're purchasing for an engagement, a birthday or simply to impress your significant other, we want to make sure that you feel calm and confident when entering any jeweller's. We looked last time at the 4Cs as the foundation of what makes a diamond valuable. However, join us today to discover best practices to sound confident, feel secure and conduct effective due diligence when choosing your diamond.

The 4 Cs

The 4 Cs are the foundation of judging value of every diamond stone. In examining clarity, colour, carat and cut of as many diamond stones as you can, you would be able to figure out what is the right price to pay for each stone. Check out our article on the 4 Cs for a more in-depth analysis of each category.
However, do remember though that although the jewellery industry provides a standard diamond quality through these gradings, the best diamond for you is ultimately based on your personal preferences and budget. If you do decide to analyse the diamonds based on the 4Cs, we suggest asking your jeweller to walk through the 4Cs while you purchase your diamond, or for you to take a loupe and examine the stone under different light conditions.
Certifications

To truly feel secure about your diamond purchase, ensure that you ask for a certification, especially if the main stone on the piece is a diamond. Such certifications may come from GIA (the most authoritative body on diamonds and gemstones), IGI, or AGS among others [we tend to use GIA].
However, the most important thing to look at in a certification is the standards that they give, most notably by giving exact readings on the 4Cs. As always though, diamond grading is inherently subjective, so while it is important to ensure there is a grading report, especially for large diamonds which are the centrepiece of the jewellery, grading reports must also be compared with your own eye test to see whether the stone truly appeals to you.
Consider the Context

Finally, in choosing the right diamond, it's not only about what is most valuable. Sometimes, you also need to consider what you'd like to buy a piece of jewellery for. At Dynasty, we make jewellery not only for traditional occasions, such as engagement rings, but we also cater towards those who are looking for pieces for everyday wear.
Our Diamond Cuff Bangle on the left for example is a prime example of how we use the right diamonds based on what you aim to wear. By studding the diamonds within a rose gold linked platform, we were able to recreate a wave effect influenced by the concept of water, which subtly dazzles those around you.
In understanding the purpose behind why you want to buy diamond jewellery, you can start to effectively budget while choosing the best quality diamonds according to this.
